Cable TV Act tweaked, imprisonment clause replaced
The Indian government has made amendments to the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, replacing imprisonment penalties with monetary fines and other actions like warnings and advisories. The move aims to encourage compliance with the Act without resorting to harsh punishments. The amendments also allow for greater flexibility in addressing different types of contraventions and include provisions for higher penalties and registration suspension or cancellation in case of repeat offenses.
