A report by the Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) of India has highlighted the encroachment and shrinkage of the Pallikaranai-Velachery marshland in south Chennai over the past two decades. The report shows a significant growth of slums and houses inside the marshland, leading to pollution of the waterbody. The marshland has also been encroached upon by a dumpyard. In another report, the CAG revealed that the delay in the implementation of the Integrated Financial and Human Resource Management System (IFHRMS) in Tamil Nadu resulted in a cost overrun of 79.9 crore. The report also flagged security glitches in the system.
