City reservoir level up to 22ft, water let out
The Chembarambakkam reservoir in Chennai has released 100 cusecs of water as a precautionary measure ahead of the northeast monsoon. The reservoir’s water level is currently at 22 feet and its storage will reduce by 0.5 tmcft after the release. The water resources department plans to maintain a depth of 21 feet in the reservoir if there is more rain. A light flooding warning has been issued for areas near the Adyar river. In 2015, the release of 29,000 cusecs of water from the reservoir caused flooding in downstream areas.
