CJI recommends Justice UU Lalit as successor

Chief Justice N V Ramana on Thursday recommended Justice Uday Umesh Lalit’s name for the post of CJI to the Union government, less than 12 hours after the law minister sought the customary recommendation from incumbent CJI on his successor. Justice Lalit who would be sworn in by the President as CJI on August 27, would have a 74-day tenure and retire on November 8.
