The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) will now conduct annual exams for class 9 and I PU in schools following the state syllabus. Some academics have expressed concerns about the frequency of assessments and the quality of evaluation by the Board. Class 9 exams will cover portions from the second term, while I PU exams will cover the full-year portions. Teachers from neighboring schools will invigilate class 9 exams, while teachers from respective colleges will invigilate I PU exams. The government school teacher highlighted the lack of time to prepare students for fundamentals due to excessive exams. D Shashi Kumar, the secretary of the Association of Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools of Karnataka, suggested restricting the assessments to government schools, as private school exams are considered more reliable. The implementation of the Right to Education Act, which allows for student detention based on learning outcomes, has not yet been done properly. Controversy arose last year when common assessments for class 5 and 8 were introduced and challenged by private schools in court.
