EC backs SC on poll freebies panel but refuses to be on it

The Election Commission on Wednesday supported the Supreme Court’s decision to set up an expert committee to examine regulatory measures on freebies announced by political parties ahead of elections, but declined to be part of the panel while taking strong objections to SC’s remarks portraying it to be non-serious about the problem.
