Coast Guard, citizens get together for major beach cleaning exercise in Bengal and Odisha

Over 2,500 volunteers, including students, government personnel, and Indian Coast Guard members, participated in a coastal cleanup activity in West Bengal and Odisha. The event, held on International Coastal Cleanup Day, aimed to promote clean coasts and a plastic-free environment. Around 1,500 kilograms of litter were collected from sea and lake sides during the cleanup. The International Coastal Cleanup Day is the world’s largest effort to clean beaches and seas, with over 12 million people participating globally. The event is held annually on the third Saturday of September.
