Crashing course: Crunch of instructors holds ITIs back
There is a severe shortage of instructors at the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) run by the Delhi government. Out of the 918 sanctioned posts, there are only 311 regular craft instructors and 240 contractual staff. The government used to engage contractual instructors, but not this year, leaving students in a difficult situation. The lack of instructors affects the livelihood of contractual staff and the education of trainees. A report by NITI Aayog highlights the shortage of qualified instructors in ITIs across the country. The government has not responded to queries regarding the issue.
