‘Darshan’ of Mt Kailash skirting China: PM’s visit will revive interest

Tourism officials in Uttarakhand are hoping to revive a viewing point near the Tibetan border called Old Lipu, which offers a majestic view of Mount Kailash in Tibet. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the region, roads and infrastructure are being improved. The spot, located at an altitude of 17,500 ft, can be reached after a steep climb and is the only place in Uttarakhand where Mt Kailash can be seen without entering China. Developing Old Lipu would allow devotees to catch a glimpse of Mt Kailash and could revive tourism in the area.
