Debt hole: China-built Pokhara international airport may become Nepal’s Gwadar Port

Nepal’s Pokhara international airport, funded largely by Chinese banks, is facing economic difficulties and long-term debt. The airport, similar to Pakistan’s Gwadar Port, has failed to attract investment and prosperity to the region. Despite being built outside of China’s Belt and Road initiative, Chinese banks provided most of the funding and a Chinese firm constructed the airport.
