Defence to rescue missions and agriculture, India tests its drone mettle
The Bharat Drone Shakti event showcased various drones developed for defense, agriculture, firefighting, and other sectors. India aims to become a drone hub by 2030, but experts highlight the country’s dependence on semiconductor chip imports as a challenge. The annual sales and turnover of drone manufacturing companies are projected to increase from Rs 60 crore in 2020-21 to over Rs 900 crore in 2023-24. Drones are being used in the defense sector for reconnaissance, surveillance, and neutralizing enemy targets. Counter-drone technology development is also essential.
