EU climate chief candidates win lawmakers’ backing after promising more

The European Parliament’s environment committee has approved Wopke Hoekstra as the EU’s next head of climate change policy, with the condition that he strengthens green measures. Hoekstra and Maros Sefcovic, who is nominated to lead overall coordination of EU green policies, still need formal approval from the full EU Parliament.
