Grass palatable to wild animals being grown by forest department
The state forest department in Tamil Nadu has initiated a plan to reduce conflicts between humans and animals by planting palatable grass in forest areas. The grass, preferred by wild animals, will be grown in areas where invasive plant species have been removed. The growth of palatable grass has been affected by cattle grazing and the spread of invasive plants, leading to wildlife straying into human settlements. By regrowing the grass in wooded areas, the department hopes to significantly reduce such conflicts. Training on grass cultivation techniques has been provided to forest personnel.
