It’s a start
Tamil Nadu’s new Startup Policy 2023 aims to grow the startup ecosystem by establishing 15,000 startups in the next few years. However, industry experts believe the policy could have been bolder and should include provisions for direct procurement from startups and retaining senior talent in the state. The policy includes a co-creation fund of ₹100 crore to invest in TN-based startups, but stakeholders point out that other states like Uttar Pradesh have allocated larger funds. The policy also focuses on manufacturing startups, social justice, and providing essential services to early-stage startups. Some entrepreneurs feel that the policy should provide more support in terms of taxes and initial costs.
