KMC plans new waiver scheme for tax dues

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is planning to introduce a new incentive scheme to encourage taxpayers to clear their outstanding property tax dues. Under the proposed scheme, those who pay the entire outstanding amount within a specified period will be given exemptions on interest and penalty. The waiver percentages will vary depending on the time taken to clear the dues, with higher waivers for early payments and lower waivers for habitual defaulters. The aim is to reward prompt payment while penalizing habitual defaulters. The KMC hopes that this scheme will increase revenue from property taxes.
