Man without bladder taken for gallstone op, doc removes appendix
A constable with West Bengal Police underwent an unnecessary appendix removal surgery after a diagnostic center wrongly reported that he had a gallstone. The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission has ordered the diagnostic center to pay for all the patient’s tests. The patient had initially received a report stating he had a gallbladder stone, but a second report mentioned a “contracted” gallbladder. It was later discovered that the patient had a congenital absence of a gallbladder. The commission has advised the patient to file a complaint against the surgeon and radiologists involved.
