Mhadei wildlife sanctuary to be notified as 55th tiger reserve of India

The Mhadei wildlife sanctuary in Goa will be officially designated as a tiger reserve, becoming the 55th tiger reserve in India. The Goa government had sought to overturn a court order requiring the declaration of the sanctuary as a tiger reserve, but the Supreme Court has refused to stay the order. The proposal to establish the tiger reserve dates back to 2011, and the Goa government is now obligated to notify it by October 24th, 2023.
