Monsoon starts retreat, rain deficit in India down to 5%

The monsoon has started to withdraw from parts of southwest Rajasthan, marking the beginning of its retreat from the country, according to the India Meteorological Department. This year’s monsoon season has been delayed, with the onset over Kerala occurring on June 8 instead of the normal date of June 1.
