The wreckage of a ship that sank 130 years ago has been discovered in Lake Huron on the US-Canada border. The ship, named ‘Africa’, disappeared in 1895 while towing another vessel, and was never seen again until now. The ship was found in pristine condition, covered in an invasive species of mussel, making identification challenging. Clues such as its enormous dimensions and a debris field of coal surrounding the vessel helped confirm its identity.
