India and Sri Lanka have successfully conducted a trial run of a high-speed passenger ferry service, marking the revival of the service after more than a decade. The regular service, covering a distance of 111km in three hours, will commence on Tuesday. The ferry, named ‘Cheriyapani’, will be operated by the Shipping Corporation of India to facilitate easy travel and people-to-people contact between the two countries. The one-way trip will cost ₹7,500 for adults and half the price for children aged between three and nine. The service aims to provide low-cost travel between Jaffna and Tamil Nadu.
