New bacterial infection from dogs spreads to humans in the UK

Brucella canis, a bacterial infection typically found in dogs, has been identified in the UK and is spreading rapidly among canines. It is incurable and can cause infertility, lameness, and chronic pain. Three human cases have also been recorded in the UK, linked to contact with infected dogs. The disease is not yet endemic in the UK but poses a higher risk to certain groups.
