NewsClick chief in 7-day police custody; 16 media bodies write to CJI

NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and HR head Amit Chakravarty have been sent to police custody for seven days. They were arrested in a case filed under UAPA after allegations that the portal was paid to support Chinese propaganda. Sixteen journalist bodies have appealed to the Chief Justice of India, seeking intervention regarding the police raids on journalists’ houses.
