No city for the elderly

By on October 1, 2023 0 8 Views

The lack of elderly-friendly facilities in public transportation systems in Chennai, India, is causing inconvenience and safety concerns for senior citizens. Metro stations have long access tunnels with slippery tiles, suburban stations have poor access roads, and bus stops lack space for waiting. This forces many seniors to rely on private vehicles or avoid going out altogether. The government is being urged to design public transport facilities with senior citizens in mind, address road and pavement encroachments, and provide better lighting in public spaces. Suggestions include low-floor buses, pathways, antiskid floor tiles, and ramps at government offices.
