Odisha: Clamour for fresh backward class survey by opposition parties
Various political parties in Odisha are calling for a fresh caste enumeration following the release of the results of Bihar’s caste survey. Critics argue that the voluntary survey conducted in Odisha was flawed and did not provide an accurate representation. They are demanding a new survey that includes door-to-door coverage of the entire population. The Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes (OSCBC) conducted the survey, which recorded data from 1.95 crore people. The government has yet to release the report. Odisha Congress chief, Sarat Pattanayak, also called for a comprehensive survey before the 2024 elections.
