Official witnesses don’t depose, Pb DGP summoned

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has summoned the home secretary and DGP Punjab to appear before the court due to the non-appearance of official witnesses in drug cases. The court observed that this has become a regular occurrence, leading to delays in trials. The order was passed while hearing a bail plea in a drug case. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the trial has come to a standstill due to the non-appearance of prosecution witnesses. The state government opposed the plea, citing the recovery of drugs in commercial quantity.
