Only kin can meet MCOCA inmates in prison: Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court has upheld a decision by prison authorities to restrict meetings of inmates charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to only their family members. The court ruled that all prisoners, including high-risk prisoners, are allowed to meet their families and have access to legal aid, so there was no need to interfere with the authorities’ decision. The prison authorities argued that the restriction was in compliance with Delhi Prison Rules. The petitioners argued that the move was arbitrary and limited the rights of the inmates.
