AIMIM MPs Asaduddin Owaisi and Imtiaz Jaleel were the only two out of 456 MPs who voted against the 33% women’s reservation bill in Lok Sabha. They demanded the inclusion of OBC reservation in the bill. The bill, which grants 33% seats to women in the lower house and state legislative assemblies, will now move to Rajya Sabha for discussion. Owaisi opposed the bill, stating it would only benefit “savarna women” and neglect OBC and Muslim women. The bill can only be implemented after the census and delimitation exercise takes place.
