OPSC recruitment: High court rules against discrimination
The Orissa high court has ruled that the Odisha Public Service Commission cannot have different rules for government servants and ex-servicemen candidates in terms of submitting their respective no objection certificate (NOC) and discharge certificate (DC) during Odisha Civil Services recruitment. The court found the distinction to be arbitrary and discriminatory. The ruling came in response to the case of an ex-serviceman whose candidature was rejected due to his DC being issued after the last date for submission of the application. The court directed the commission to accept the DC and process the candidate’s candidature accordingly.
