Over 26 tonnes of waste generated during Kedarnath yatra, 17 tonnes unprocessed

An RTI query revealed that over 26 tonnes of waste, with 17.5 tonnes being unprocessed organic waste, were dumped in landfills at Kedarnath during this year’s pilgrimage season. Despite the environmental concerns, no penalties were imposed. Officials cited difficulties in composting at high altitudes and assured that measures are being taken to manage the waste.
