A recent study shows that prolonged periods of inactivity during childhood may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes later in life, regardless of weight and blood pressure. The study, conducted as part of the Children of the 1990s project, found that every additional minute spent sitting from ages 11 to 24 led to an increase in left ventricular mass, which is associated with a higher risk of heart disease and stroke in adults.
