Record-breaking rain: Mass flooding in New York, more rain expected on Saturday

New York City declared a state of emergency as record-breaking rainfall caused widespread flooding. The deluge, a result of Tropical Storm Ophelia and a mid-latitude system, brought a month’s worth of rain in just three hours. The storm caused basements, schools, an airport terminal, and subways to be inundated with floodwater. Although no deaths or severe injuries have been reported, authorities are on alert as more rain is expected.
