Rural Bengal reports more cases of dengue than urban areas
Dengue cases in rural areas of Bengal have surpassed those in urban areas, marking a significant shift from previous years. Last week, 64% of reported cases were from rural areas, while 36% were from urban regions. Health officials are now focusing on strengthening vector control measures in rural areas, as well as investigating the impact of climate change on dengue transmission. The districts with the highest number of cases are North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, and Nadia. Virologists are also studying whether a new vector, Aedes albopictus, is contributing to the spike in rural cases.
