Stung by dengue, Hyd grapples to meet rising platelet demand
The spike in dengue cases in Hyderabad has led to an increased demand for platelets. Currently, there are at least 20 distress calls for platelets each day across blood banks and donor groups in the city. Platelet transfusion is required when the count drops below a certain level and when there are symptoms such as nose bleeds or heavy menstrual bleeding. While corporate hospitals are able to meet the demand internally, many patients are being asked to find their own donors.
