Supreme court nixes MTP plea, upholds 27-week fetus’s right to live

The Supreme Court of India has ruled that a nearly 27-week-old fetus cannot be terminated, as it is healthy and poses no danger to the mother’s life. The court rejected the plea of a 27-year-old woman to use its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to permit termination. The court stated that the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act does not allow termination after 26 weeks, and there were no substantial fetal abnormalities detected by medical boards.
