Three Hoysala-era temples now world heritage sites
Belur and Halebeedu in Hassan district and Somanathpura in Mysuru district have been designated as new UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. These Hoysala temples are known for their unique architecture and intricate stone carvings. The temples were added to the list during the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO. Concerns were raised about the expansion of the buffer area around the temples, but India assured that restoration and management works will be carried out. The temples will be the fourth World Heritage Site in Karnataka and the 42nd in India.
