New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee will undergo surgery on his injured thumb, and his availability for the World Cup will be determined next week. Southee fractured and dislocated his right thumb while attempting a catch in the fourth One-Day International against England. The head coach of New Zealand, Gary Stead, is hopeful that Southee will recover in time for the team’s first World Cup match on October 5.
