Traders in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam shut 12,000 shops in protest against Cauvery water sharing with Karnataka

Traders in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu have shut down thousands of shops and establishments in protest against the disputed sharing of Cauvery water with Karnataka. The joint campaign by the Cauvery Delta Protection Movement and the farmers’ union demands the Centre’s intervention for Karnataka to release sufficient water. The Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a resolution urging the Union government to direct Karnataka to release water as per the orders of the Cauvery Water Management Authority.
