Tripura HC cites SC ruling, forbids automatic 498A arrests

The Tripura high court has issued guidelines to prevent automatic arrests under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code. The guidelines state that investigating officers must fill a checklist of parameters before arresting an accused and failure to comply may result in departmental action. Magistrates who authorize detention without recording reasons will also face departmental action.
