Warna first major dam in ghat region to reach 100% capacity
Warna dam, the second largest dam in the ghat region of Sangli’s Shirala tehsil, has reached its full capacity for the first time this monsoon. The dam has a capacity of 34.40 TMC and is among the few large-sized earthen dams in the state. The water from the dam is used for irrigation and is released into the Warna river, a major tributary of the Krishna river. The dam’s filling brings relief to drought-prone areas in Sangli district. The neighboring Koyna dam is also experiencing a rise in water stock due to heavy rainfall.
