WHO looks for treatment for epidemic of loneliness
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has formed a technical advisory committee to address the issue of loneliness, which is becoming a public health problem. The committee is seeking experts to assist in identifying mechanisms to tackle the issue on a global scale. Loneliness and social isolation have serious consequences for physical and mental health, and are associated with increased mortality risk. A recent survey by the Agewell Foundation revealed a significant increase in loneliness among senior citizens. The UN secretary-general has called for more inclusive policies.
