These migrants often embark on a perilous journey across eight Latin American countries to reach the US southern border. Their journey typically begins in Ecuador, one of the few Latin American nations that offer visa-free travel for Chinese citizens. From Ecuador, they move to Necoclí in Colombia, which serves as a starting point to traverse the dangerous Darién Gap, a dense forest and swampy terrain connecting Central and South America. Throughout this journey, these migrants face numerous threats, including robbery, abuse, and even death.
