1L trees to face axe for pvt power project in Rajasthan’s Baran district

The Rajasthan government has approved cutting down over 1 lakh trees in Shahabad Conservation Reserve, Baran district, for an 1,800MW power project. Environmentalists warn this could severely impact the state’s green cover and interstate cheetah conservation efforts. They argue that compensatory afforestation in Jaisalmer won’t mitigate the environmental damage due to differing conditions.
