5 rape-murder cases a week reported during ’17-’22: Study

From 2017 to 2022, there were 1,551 reported cases of rape/gangrape with murder, averaging nearly five cases each week. Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of incidents, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Assam. Despite a 65% conviction rate, the backlog in courts has doubled, with many cases closed due to lack of evidence.
