A study, led by Fakir Mohan University, highlighted central India’s high incidence of lightning deaths, accounting for 50% of fatalities. Researchers attributed this trend to climate change, environmental degradation, and socio-economic factors. The study stressed the need for better awareness, early warning systems, and lightning-safe infrastructure. Only seven out of 36 states have prepared lightning action plans, despite increasing fatalities.
