US soldier who crossed into North Korea free after guilty plea

US soldier Travis King has been sentenced to 12 months of confinement for desertion after crossing into North Korea from South Korea in July 2023. He pleaded guilty to five charges, including assault and disobeying orders. As part of a plea deal, he will be dishonorably discharged and was released early for good behavior and time served.
