Just 0.2 acre for green corridor? Delhi HC fumes at forest department
The Delhi High Court criticized the forest department for only being able to spare 0.23 acre for creating a green corridor of alternative forests in the city. The court expressed frustration and disbelief at the small amount of land offered and questioned if government officials understood the severity of the problem. The court ordered the principal secretary of the forest department to join proceedings and address issues such as green cover, utilization of the Green Delhi Fund, encroachment on forest land, and identification of alternative land for forests. The court also expressed concern over vacant posts in the department and the issue of crop burning.
