Kamduni case: Bengal govt moves SC against HC verdict
The Bengal government has filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against a Calcutta High Court order in the 2013 Kamduni case. The case involves the gang-rape and murder of a 20-year-old college girl by villagers known to her. The High Court had commuted the death sentence of two convicts to life imprisonment and acquitted the third. The Bengal government argues that the High Court watered down the severity of the offense and discredited the prosecution’s case. They are seeking a suspension of the order.
