Tryst with BC quota: Categorisation into A, B, C & D groups done in 1970

The issue of BC reservations in Telangana dates back to 1966 when Andhra Pradesh first issued a GO (No. 1880) granting eligibility for seats in colleges and hostels to children from 112 BC communities. The decision was initially struck down by the AP high court in 1963, but in 1972, the Supreme Court upheld the BC reservations order, recognizing 93 communities as socially and educationally BCs and providing 25% reservations for them in the education sector. This was considered a historic decision.
