Senior Labour figures have dismissed remarks by Donald Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, JD Vance, suggesting that the UK could become the first “truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon” under Labour’s governance. Angela Rayner, the deputy prime minister, told ITV that Vance has made “quite a lot of fruity things in the past” and she looked forward to meeting him and Trump if they won the US election in November.
