The decline of pujaris, traditional Hindu priests, in Goa has led to a shortage during festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi. The younger generation is increasingly shunning the occupation due to low income, lack of respect, and a lowly status in society. As a result, pujaris are now being sourced from neighboring states to meet the demand. Some have suggested hiring female pujaris to restore the dignity and tradition of the profession.
